The first part of this song is inspired by a first visit to POLAR. The drone -- imposed with the purpose of reaching fuel -- absorbs the planet's mysteries. An ocean so beautiful and overwhelming that the drone never remembered to search within, too. Is there a problem with that? It seemed not, until you asked. The second part of the song is inspired by a final visit to POLAR. The drone begins to drift from the goals it once considered definitive. This newfound freedom is tainted with a dread: that this path means choices which alienate as much as they unite.
Lyrics:
(am I alone
without the programming that
binds me here?)
-
If the unfamiliar
Is my greatest enemy
Then why
Does curiosity
Bring me to
What was never meant
To be
-
Oh my greatest fear:
If I understand this world
Beyond some predefined goals
Is that it won't love me back
Oh my greatest fear:
If I understand myself
Beyond what my homeworld wants
Is that I cannot go back
(can I?)
Oh my greatest fear:
If I understand this world
Beyond some predefined goals
Is that it won't love me back
Oh my greatest fear:
If I understand myself
Beyond what my homeworld wants
Is that I cannot go back
(can I?)
-
Am I alone
Without the programming that
Binds me here?
Is someone else
Listening to
Or writing
My own prayers?
Am I alone
Without the programming that
Binds me here?
-
Oh my greatest fear:
If I understand this world
Beyond some predefined goals
Is that it won't love me back
Oh my greatest fear:
If I understand myself
Beyond what my homeworld wants
Is that I cannot go back
If I open up my heart
And stop playing your part--
But am I really looking
For another second start?
If I plunge into the sea
And find beauty in this black
There's never a guarantee
That this planet loves me back!
